How to Get Into a Basic Boxing Stance

1. Stand slightly sideways toward your target so that you lead with your shoulder opposite to your strongest punching hand. If your Right is the strongest, your left shoulder should be forward.

This is called the orthodox stance.

2. Your feet stance should be comfortably placed apart so you can hold a strong balance. Place your front foot slightly forward.

A Must See Boxing Documentary

It's very important when wailing on a heavy bag that you have the right support on your fist, but before you put gloves on you need to support your fingers, knuckles and wrist with a hand wrap.

Hand Wraps are inexpensive and are a useful tool to get the right conection on the bag or during sparring sessions knowing that you have extra protection.
Never hit a bag without them underneath your gloves.
They are very easy to put on as show above. Make sure the knuckles are wrapped more than 4-5 times as this will be the main connection.

Never under any circumstances hit a heavy bag without any gloves on, you are just asking for trouble.

One—third of all boxing injuries involve the hands. Boxing gloves, combined with hand wraps can help to prevent hand, thumb and wrist injuries and a condition that is commonly known as 'Boxers Fracture', which is a breakage of the 'neck' of the 5th Metacarpal. Quality Boxing gloves help to stabilize your hand and wrist area, dramatically reducing the risk of hand injury during impact.

The different types of Boxing Glove
